Recovery & Support for Behavioral Problems in Children

With the help of behavioral therapy, children and teens with behavioral problems such as oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder (CD) may have fewer symptoms by early adulthood. Other co-existing conditions, though, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), may have lifelong symptoms.

Our experts offer a variety of child and family support services and resilience programs for children and teens with behavioral problems and their families. These resources are provided by Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.

Behavioral School Consultation

Developmental–behavioral pediatricians and experts at the Child Study Center, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital, conduct school observations and collaborate with educators to design and implement behavior management programs in schools. This frequently involves training teachers, aides, and other professionals in techniques for managing behavioral problems. Our clinicians work directly with schools whenever possible to encourage positive teacher–student interactions and to help children realize their potential.

Our specialists regularly collaborate with educators to obtain needed services for children, such as Section 504 plans or individualized education programs (IEPs). A Section 504 plan can provide accommodations, such as extended testing time, for children with learning disorders or behavioral disorders such as ADHD.

An IEP is a customized education plan for children with special needs, such as learning disorders, autism, or more severe behavioral conditions, for example.

Workshops

Experts at the Child Study Center also offer a variety of workshops for parents of children with behavioral problems. The workshops provide information about behavioral problems in children, as well as effective strategies for responding to disruptive behavior.
